DaVita Hospital Services has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Ambulatory Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
DaVita Hospital Services underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review on December 12–16, 2022. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Ambulatory Care standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual.
“Safety is our top priority,” says Theresa Stright, vice president of clinical services at DaVita Hospital Services. “Regular safety reviews and clinical audits, plus rigorous data management, informs our care teams of opportunities for improved coordination, survey readiness and patient experience.”
DaVita Hospital Services partners with more than 800 hospitals across the U.S. to provide high-quality and innovative kidney care in the inpatient hospital setting. With more than 14 years of experience, the organization completes more than 1 million treatments and procedures each year.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“As a heath care accreditor, The Joint Commission works with health care organizations across settings to help improve patient safety and quality of care through our expert resources and tools, innovative solutions and rigorous standards,” says Deborah Ryan, MS, RN, interim executive vice president, Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. “We commend DaVita Hospital Services for its commitment to advance safety and quality for all patients.”
DaVita Hospital Services uses the DaVita Patient Quality Pyramid to maintain a culture committed to safety, quality care, transition of care and positive experiences.
“We leverage this framework to run regular reports for quality assurance. This enables our teams to identify trends and facilitate targeted conversations on improving safety,” says Stright. “It serves to help us stay ready for surveys and reviews—but ultimately, it helps us maintain high-quality care for the people who matter most: our patients.”
