According to the EPA, green power is electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These resources generate electricity with a net zero increase in carbon dioxide emissions. As a purchaser of green power, DaVita is committed to superior environmental choices compared to companies who utilize traditional power generation sources.
"EPA commends our leading Partners for their continued commitment to protecting the environment by using green power," said Kathleen Hogan, Director of the Climate Protection Partnerships Division at EPA. "By supporting green power, DaVita Inc./Central Business Offices are reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, supporting clean energy technologies, and contributing to a clean energy future."
"DaVita is pleased to be recognized by the EPA for our proactive steps towards sustainability," said Dennis Kogod, Chief Operating Officer of DaVita. "Purchasing green power was important to us because as a FORTUNE 500 company it is our responsibility to help protect the future of our environment."
This commitment to green business and carbon footprint management is part of the DaVita Village Green, a program designed to reduce the environmental impact of the company's business practices. DaVita Village Green is dedicated to providing education to clinical facilities and business offices on the fundamentals of conservation, identifying ways to reduce DaVita's carbon footprint and pursuing green supply purchasing options. This and many other programs are outlined in DaVita's Community Care Report, the first comprehensive review of the company's broad philanthropic, community and social efforts. The report draws on the programs developed by DaVita and its teammates to enrich the lives of the community's members. To view the report, please visit www.davita.com/communitycare.
