Effective April 1, 2004, DaVita acquired Battle Creek Health System's (BCHS) dialysis facility serving patients in Battle Creek, Michigan. George Adam, M.D. will continue to provide Medical Director services at the facility. Also effective April 1, DaVita acquired Spring Branch Kidney Center in Houston, Texas. Cesar Bravo, M.D. will continue to serve as the facility's Medical Director.
On May 1, DaVita added a clinic in Bogalusa, Louisiana in which Hossein K. Tabari, M.D. will serve as Medical Director.
On June 1, 2004 DaVita added five more clinics to its operations. Three of the clinics are in eastern Kentucky and one is in West Virginia, representing DaVita's first clinic in the state of West Virginia. Ghazala Quddus, M.D. will serve as Medical Director for the four facilities. The fifth clinic, which is based in Reidsville, NC, will expand our presence in Rockingham County. Belayenh Befekadu, M.D., a current DaVita Medical Director, will become Medical Director for the Reidsville unit.
DaVita is a leading provider of dialysis services for patients suffering from chronic kidney failure. The Company operates and provides administrative services to kidney dialysis centers and home peritoneal dialysis programs domestically in 34 states, as well as Washington, D.C. As of March 31, 2003, DaVita operates or provides administrative services to 571 outpatient facilities serving 48,400 patients.
