DaVita Supports Texas Senate Bill 1876

Today, the Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 1876, which helps provide the state’s dialysis community with additional support during times of emergency. In response, DaVita issued the following statement attributed to Chakilla Robinson White, group vice president for DaVita Kidney Care over Texas operations:

“When disaster strikes, there’s nothing more important than protecting our state’s most vulnerable citizens. As an active participant in discussions surrounding SB 1876, we applaud the thoughtful work of Texas legislators like Senator Borris Miles and Representative Tom Oliverson, who convened representatives of the state’s health care community to discuss the needs of Texans on dialysis in times of emergency.

We have deep experience responding quickly to ensure our patients have the support they need to access dialysis treatment during disasters. SB 1876 reinforces crucial steps we already take, such as staging generators and water tankers and opening our dialysis centers to any patient we can safely treat – regardless of where they usually get their treatment. It also bolsters critical community support to help us better serve Texans in emergencies, including prioritizing dialysis centers on the state’s electrical and water grid.

SB 1876 will enhance communication across Texas’ health care system, so we all work better together in extraordinary circumstances. We are excited about the support this bill has received and to see it signed into law.”
